Our Program
Not every young person in recovery is immediately ready for the expectations of a traditional sober living home. Many arrive at this stage without the foundational life skills needed to thrive in an environment that requires independence and accountability. Responsibilities like managing rotating chores, securing employment, attending multiple recovery meetings, and paying rent on time can feel overwhelming—especially for those who were in active addiction during the formative years when these skills are typically developed.
At MANNA House, we understand that early recovery often requires more than just sobriety—it requires structure, guidance, and the opportunity to relearn essential skills for independent living. That’s why our program is intentionally designed to meet young people where they are. We walk beside them as they build the confidence, habits, and resilience needed to succeed—not only in recovery, but in life.
Our program follows a three-phase journey. In the beginning, we teach residents how to “walk”—to navigate daily responsibilities with support and structure. In the second phase, we walk alongside them as they gain experience, learn from setbacks, and build momentum. In the final phase, they demonstrate their ability to walk on their own, graduating into independent living with the tools and confidence they need to sustain long-term recovery.
Throughout this process, community is key. Residents are encouraged to move beyond isolation, engage with their peers, and become part of the MANNA House family. They learn that recovery isn’t just about abstaining from substances—it’s about connection, growth, and rediscovering joy.
And yes, fun is a core part of the journey. We believe laughter, play, and meaningful experiences are essential to healing. Through games, group outings, and recreational activities, residents experience firsthand that sobriety can be fulfilling—and fun. By replacing the temporary highs of addiction with genuine enjoyment and belonging, they’re less likely to return to old habits.
At MANNA House, we don’t just prepare young men for sobriety—we prepare them for life.
THREE PHASE PROGRAM
Our Three Phase Program is thoughtfully tailored to each individual, meeting them where they are and helping them grow in the areas most essential for long-term sobriety and independent living. While daily routines may vary based on personal needs and goals, each resident can expect a clear structure, progressive expectations, and hands-on support throughout every step of the journey.
Phase I: Foundations
Phase 1 is focused on building structure, fostering accountability, and beginning the journey toward independence—one step at a time.
-
Initial Assessment: Each resident will complete an individualized assessment to determine their unique needs and goals. A family member or loved one is welcome to participate in this process, if desired.
-
Shared Living: Residents will be placed in double occupancy rooms to encourage accountability and develop essential interpersonal skills.
-
Transportation: Group transportation will be provided for groceries, meetings, and house events. Additional transportation packages for appointments (e.g., medical, legal) can be purchased as needed. Personal vehicles are not permitted during Phase 1.
-
Food & Cooking Skills: Residents are encouraged to receive a weekly free food box through county services. They’ll be taught how to cook using these resources, with optional grocery store trips available alongside a house manager.
-
Employment Readiness: While there is no immediate requirement to secure employment, residents will receive support in resume building, job readiness, and developing professional skills to prepare for future opportunities.
-
Daily Routine & Structure: Bedrooms are off-limits between 9 AM and 9 PM, except when necessary. Each morning, residents will review and update their personal calendars with staff. Family members may opt to view these calendars to track progress and participation.
-
Recovery Meetings: Daily attendance at AA meetings is mandatory, with transportation provided. Residents are expected to obtain a sponsor and begin working the 12 steps.
-
Community Engagement: Weekly house meetings are required and include a shared meal to foster community and connection.
-
Required Fun: Joy and play are essential to long-term recovery. Daily in-house activities and regular group outings help residents experience the joy of sober living.
Phase II:
Growth & Responsibility
Phase 2 focuses on gaining independence through employment, financial responsibility, and continued recovery progress.
-
Employment: Residents are expected to secure and maintain gainful employment. MANNA House will continue to offer support as needed during this transition.
-
Financial Responsibility: Each resident will work with their family or loved one to establish a payment plan, contributing a portion of their MANNA House rent each month.
-
Personal Transportation: Residents may begin working toward independent transportation. Once employed, they may park their car on nearby Sleepy Hollow Road (approximately 50 yards from the house). Residents must demonstrate budgeting skills and be responsible for gas, maintenance, and insurance.
-
Skill Development: Under the observation and guidance of staff, residents will begin demonstrating life skills and personal responsibility necessary for long-term success in recovery and independent living.
-
Recovery Commitment: Residents will continue working the 12 steps with a sponsor and are expected to follow through with sponsor guidance. MANNA House staff will maintain communication with sponsors to ensure residents are actively engaged in their recovery work.
Phase III:
Empowerment & Transition
Phase 3 is focused on self-direction and preparing for life beyond MANNA House, with residents taking greater ownership of their recovery and independence.
-
Increased Independence: Residents continue all responsibilities from Phase 2 with less supervision and a greater focus on shaping their future.
-
Peer Leadership: Each resident will be paired with a Phase 1 “buddy” to meet with weekly, offering guidance and sharing their experiences in recovery and at MANNA House.
-
On-Site Parking: Residents may now park their car at the house, including in the driveway, as they move toward full autonomy.
-
Ongoing Recovery Work: Residents are expected to maintain their sponsor relationship and attend weekly house meetings, with dinner provided.
-
Exit Planning: With support from staff, residents will develop a personalized plan for maintaining their sobriety and establishing a successful transition into independent living.
