Manna House, founded by Grant Smith, was born out of his profound personal journey through addiction and recovery. Drawing from his active involvement in the AA community and his roles as a certified peer recovery specialist (i-FPRS) at Loudon Serenity House and group facilitator at Recovery Unplugged, Grant’s firsthand experience with addiction, combined with his commitment to helping others, inspired the creation of Manna House - a safe and structured environment where young men can not only achieve sobriety but also embark on a path to a fulfilling, independent life.
At Manna House, residents benefit from a comprehensive range of support services, including regular counseling, peer support groups, and skill-building workshops focused on essential adult living skills like financial literacy, job readiness, and household management. We also provide training in effective communication, time management, and decision-making, empowering residents to face the challenges of both adulthood and recovery.
In addition to these foundational supports, Manna House emphasizes the importance of joy, community and fun as essential elements in the recovery process. Our home features enriching amenities like a pool table and game area, gym equipment and home theater, providing residents with opportunities for relaxation and connection. We also host weekly and monthly events designed to foster camaraderie and a sense of belonging, helping residents build strong relationships and maintain a positive outlook throughout their journey.
Through partnerships with local organizations and ongoing community-building activities, we ensure that our residents have access to resources and support well beyond their time at Manna House. Our mission is to create a nurturing community where every resident can achieve lasting sobriety, develop the confidence to navigate life’s challenges, and emerge with the skills needed for a fulfilling, independent future. Manna House stands as a beacon of hope, dedicated to fostering growth, accountability, compassion, and an engaging living environment that encourages both personal and collective transformation.
Our Core Values
Sobriety
Sobriety is the foundation of everything we do at Manna House. It is the most important value because without sobriety, all else falls apart. We help our residents prioritize their recovery to ensure they can build lasting change and success in their lives.
Fun
Recovery doesn’t have to be boring. At Manna House, we believe in making recovery enjoyable. When you learn how to have fun while staying sober, it creates lasting motivation to remain in recovery. Fun is an essential part of healing and growth.
Family
At Manna House, you are family. We believe in building strong bonds and offering support, not just for our residents, but also for their families. Our goal is to help repair and strengthen those traditional family relationships, ensuring long-term recovery and connection.
Connection
The opposite of addiction is connection. We emphasize the importance of being present and making meaningful connections. By building strong, healthy relationships, we empower our residents to heal, grow, and find lasting support in their journey.
Responsibility
At Manna House, we teach the importance of taking responsibility for your actions and choices. We don’t just talk about it; we help our residents walk it out. Responsibility is key to building a healthy, independent, and successful life.
Independence
Independence is the ultimate goal. At Manna House, we guide residents in creating a solid foundation for adulthood, helping them gain the skills and confidence to stand on their own and thrive as independent individuals.
Empowerment
We believe in teaching through doing. Our approach encourages residents to embrace a growth mindset, where they feel empowered to take control of their recovery, their choices, and their futures. We nurture self-confidence and self-sufficiency.
Spirituality
Spirituality is about finding purpose and meaning beyond ourselves. We support residents in exploring their own spiritual journey, helping them connect to a higher power. This connection provides a sense of purpose, guiding their recovery and enriching their lives with hope, direction, and a deeper understanding of themselves.
